  • Rebecca Griffith: Obsolete Objects and Lasting Memories

For her October 2025 solo exhibition Video Magic: 1996, Rebecca Griffith activated Art City’s Monthly Installation Artist Residency Gallery with video rental ephemera. For the millennials among us, the inherent nostalgia bound to the physicality of VHS tape transports us to our childhood. For Griffith, the material is a direct reference to growing up with and eventually becoming the caretaker of her mother, who ran a video rental store in the early 1990s named Video Magic.

  • Unpacked Mobile Gallery

The Moving Art Exhibition,UNPACKED a DIY artist space on wheels. The independent exhibition space is a “Mobile Gallery” or “Pop-Up Truck Show.” This truck turned showroom allows for guerrilla art shows around the city of CHICAGO. Finding and affording gallery space is typically a difficult and expensive venture, especially for burgeoning artists. It has occurred to this team of DeKalb-based artists that a more cost-effective way to conduct a pop-up show in the city is to rent a truck and get permission to park it somewhere. Inspired by similar creative projects done elsewhere, we put our own spin on an interactive way to showcase artwork in the city of Chicago.
